About our director Jo Ann Fernon has been a member of Sweet Adelines International for 40 years. Her achievements and contributions are as follows:
Because of Hurricane Katrina, the chorus membership was reduced by one half. Jo Ann did not let this dampen her enthusiasm to keep the remaining members involved and singing. She encouraged them to participate in the Region 10 annual competition in Dallas, Texas and wrote a “Katrina” parody to a barbershop melody as one of the competition songs. Her efforts allowed the chorus to find some humor in their loss and inspired them to sing their best. The performance earned a standing ovation from the audience and the chorus was delighted to place eighth out of seventeen contestants. Her leadership is stronger than ever. Because of JoAnn our chorus is now 47 members strong. This year at Region 10 annual competition in Houston, TX, Crescent City Sound Chorus received "The Most Improved Chorus" award. She continues to direct rehearsals every Monday night at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, giving the women of Greater New Orleans and surrounding parishes the opportunity to discover within themselves talents and strengths they may never have imagined they possess.
